I always thought the purpose of a trade show was to bring industry people together to display and demonstrate new products and services, so you can imagine my surprise when my other half invited me to spend the afternoon at a luxury trade show. He, of course, was checking it out for work purposes, but this was the first time I was able to tag along.
We headed to a large private airport where we were greeted by a red carpet and a glass of champagne. After checking in, we started making our way through the displays of planes, luxury buses, cars, and helicopters. I’m not going to lie- I was pretty excited to spend an afternoon milling about looking at beautiful and expensive modes of travel that I would never otherwise have a way of seeing. While he worked, I got to make conversation and take some pictures.
I came to find out that they were actually giving away tickets to the general public via Facebook. Although a fun opportunity for everyone, I thought about whether that was the true demographic the displaying companies were targeting- probably not, but that didn’t stop me from having a good time.
While my other half was busy chatting about planes and charter, I spent the time looking at things I didn’t even know existed. For example, a luxury bus with a pool and helipad. Yes- you read that right. A bus….with a pool…and a landing pad for a helicopter…. I can’t even begin to imagine how many of these (if any) they sell a year, but here it is:
So there you have it. Photographic proof that somewhere out there this exists. Again, most of us will never come across this type of luxury unless it’s parked for show, but it was interesting to walk through (and tons of fun to take pictures in).
My day didn’t end there, though. There were some more attainable items to view. This included some cars, R.V.s, and smaller planes for the mid-range buyer which I got to see up close. The companies displaying them were happy to answer my questions and let me grab a few photos even though it was obvious I wasn’t buying. But then again, at these events, one never knows the connections they are making so it behooves them to be polite.
Would I do this again? Sure. It was a fun way to spend the afternoon on a nice day. However, I cannot help but wonder if it was worth it for the companies that paid money to exhibit there. As for me, I will keep taking every opportunity to dream about travel!
